Heights for 3D printing
An inkjet sticker has one height, the paper. A 3D-printed marker has two: the white and the black, and the black is measured from the white's outer face.
The rule
- Inkjet: only the paper's thickness, filled in from the preset (0.1 mm on the vinyl presets).
- 3D print: the white height and the black height. The black always starts at the white's outer face and goes in: a white of W and a black of B put the black from W − B to W, flush with the face.
- Driven heights come from the preset's layers: whole layers printed face down, the first layer plus k layers, the fewest that reach 0.5 mm of black and 1.8 mm of white. Without layer heights, the old 2 mm white and 0.6 mm black.
- Flip is always there, on a face too: the face only picks which way the marker starts out.
In numbers
| Preset | White | Black |
|---|---|---|
| 0.2 mm first layer, 0.32 mm layers | 1.8 mm | 0.52 mm, from 1.28 to 1.8 mm |
| Default (no layer heights) | 2 mm | 0.6 mm, from 1.4 to 2 mm |
Why
Measured from the white's face, the black's height means the same thing whatever the white is, and the face the camera sees is always flat.
“for inkjet you just get to set paper thickness (but its autofilled from the preset); for 3D printer you get to set the white height and black height. black height is always measured from the outer face of the white”
